What were the fashion trends that started in (or were popular) 1959?

I’m working on a list of things that were popular in 1959 for an anniversary present. I would love to include information about fashion and department stores in the list and I have not found much information online for that specific year. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

In 1959 the country was still much like the TV show, Happy Days. Moms pretty much stayed home. To go out, people dressed up. Women in dresses and heels and men in ties and coats. Watch Leave it to beaver, Ozzie and Harriet and Father knows best to see what it was like then. Very different than the following decade.

Check out some of these interesting events, images and info. that took place in 1959. See what you can extract from these sites below that would be of importance. I couldn’t find anything on department stores. I’m sure Macy’s was popular back then.
